Physiotherapy

Movement. Strength. Independence.

Movement plays an important role in a child’s growth, exploration, learning and everyday participation. Some children may need additional support to develop balance, coordination, muscle strength, mobility and physical abilities. At Heal Child Development Centre, our paediatric physiotherapy services focus on supporting children’s physical development through individualised, age-appropriate and goal-oriented activities.

Our approach recognises that every child develops at their own pace. Through appropriate assessment, therapeutic movement activities and family involvement, we aim to help children improve functional movement, participate in play and daily routines, and develop greater confidence in their physical abilities.

When Can Paediatric Physiotherapy Help?

Paediatric physiotherapy may benefit children who experience difficulties with movement, posture, balance or age-appropriate motor development. Parents may consider professional guidance when they notice:

  • Delays in achieving age-appropriate gross motor milestones.

  • Difficulty sitting, standing, walking or changing positions.

  • Challenges with balance, coordination or body control.

  • Reduced strength or difficulty participating in physical activities.

  • Unusual movement patterns or postural difficulties.

  • Challenges with mobility, climbing, running or playing.

  • Physical difficulties that affect everyday activities and participation.

These signs can have different causes and do not automatically indicate a particular condition. A qualified physiotherapist can assess the child’s movement abilities and recommend suitable support.

Our Paediatric Physiotherapy Services

1. Gross Motor Development

Gross motor skills involve using larger muscle groups for activities such as sitting, standing, walking, running and jumping. Physiotherapy may include age-appropriate movement activities that help children practise these skills according to their developmental abilities.

2. Balance and Coordination

Balance and coordination support safe, controlled movement during play and everyday activities. Therapeutic exercises may focus on postural stability, body awareness, controlled movements and coordination through suitable activities.

3. Muscle Strength and Endurance

Children may benefit from activities designed to develop functional strength and physical endurance. Exercises are selected according to individual abilities and goals to support participation in movement, play and daily routines.

4. Mobility and Functional Movement

Physiotherapy may help children practise movements required for changing positions, walking and participating in age-appropriate activities. Support is tailored to the child’s functional abilities, mobility needs and physical development.

5. Posture and Body Control

Appropriate therapeutic activities may focus on postural control, alignment and stability during sitting, standing and movement. These skills can contribute to greater comfort and participation in everyday activities.

6. Movement Through Play

Play-based movement activities can encourage children to explore physical skills in engaging and meaningful ways. Activities may incorporate reaching, stepping, climbing, balancing and other age-appropriate movements based on individual therapy goals.

Our Individualised Physiotherapy Approach

At Heal Child Development Centre, paediatric physiotherapy begins with understanding the child’s developmental history, movement abilities, physical needs and everyday experiences. A qualified physiotherapist may assess relevant motor skills, balance, coordination, posture and functional movement.

Based on the assessment, individualised goals are developed around meaningful activities and appropriate physical skills. Therapy may include guided movement, balance activities, functional exercises and play-based practice. Progress is reviewed periodically, and activities are adapted to the child’s abilities and changing needs.

Working Together With Parents and Caregivers

Family involvement can help children practise appropriate movement skills beyond therapy sessions. Parents may receive guidance on safe, suitable activities that encourage movement and participation at home. Where appropriate, collaboration with educators and other professionals can support consistency across the child’s daily environments.
