Special Education

Every Child Can Learn. The Path May Look Different.

Every child has unique strengths, interests and learning needs. Some children benefit from additional educational support to develop foundational skills, participate in classroom activities and build confidence in learning. At Heal Child Development Centre, our special education services focus on creating individualised learning opportunities that recognise each child’s abilities and developmental needs.

Our approach to special education for children emphasises meaningful learning, practical skill development and steady progress towards individual goals. Through structured activities, appropriate teaching strategies and family collaboration, we aim to support children’s communication, early literacy, numeracy, school readiness and everyday independence.

When Can Special Education Help?

Special education may benefit children who require additional support to access learning opportunities or develop educational and functional skills. Parents may consider professional guidance when they notice:

  • Difficulty recognising letters, numbers, shapes or basic concepts.

  • Challenges with reading, writing or early mathematical skills.

  • Difficulty following instructions or completing learning activities.

  • Challenges with attention, task participation or classroom routines.

  • Need for individualised teaching approaches or additional learning support.

  • Difficulty developing practical skills needed for school readiness.

  • Learning needs associated with developmental differences or disabilities.

Every child learns differently, and these challenges can have various causes. An appropriate assessment can help identify learning priorities and guide the development of suitable educational goals.

Our Special Education Services

1. Early Learning and School Readiness

Early learning activities may focus on foundational concepts, following instructions, recognising familiar objects, developing attention and participating in structured activities. School readiness support helps children practise skills that encourage a smoother transition into educational environments.

2. Reading and Writing Skills

Individualised teaching activities may support letter recognition, phonological awareness, early reading, vocabulary, handwriting readiness and written expression according to the child’s learning level.

3. Numeracy and Basic Concepts

Children may receive support with number recognition, counting, matching, sorting, shapes, patterns and introductory mathematical concepts. Activities are adapted to encourage understanding through repetition, visual materials and practical experiences.

4. Individualised Educational Goals

Children have different learning strengths and support requirements. Special education may include personalised learning objectives, structured teaching activities, visual supports and appropriate adjustments to help children work towards meaningful educational outcomes.

5. Functional Academics and Life Skills

Learning can extend beyond traditional academic subjects. Activities may focus on recognising everyday symbols, understanding basic instructions, making choices, following routines and developing practical skills that support greater independence.

6. Learning Through Play and Activities

Age-appropriate games, hands-on materials, creative activities and structured play can make learning more engaging. These approaches may encourage problem-solving, participation, communication and the development of foundational learning skills.

Our Individualised Special Education Approach

At Heal Child Development Centre, special education begins with understanding a child’s existing skills, learning preferences, developmental needs and areas requiring additional support. Information from the family and appropriate educational assessments can help identify learning priorities.

Based on these needs, an individualised educational plan may be developed with clear, meaningful goals. Teaching strategies can include visual aids, hands-on activities, repetition, structured tasks and positive encouragement. Progress is reviewed periodically, allowing learning goals and methods to be adjusted as the child develops.

Working Together With Families

Parents and caregivers play an important role in supporting educational progress. We encourage family involvement and may suggest simple learning activities that can be practised at home. Where appropriate, collaboration with teachers and other professionals can help promote consistency across learning environments.
